French left-wing vows more protests

PARIS (Reuters) – French left-wing parties rejected on Saturday a decision by President Jacques Chirac to modify a youth job law that has sparked a national crisis and said they would march to press for the measure to be scrapped.

Opposition groups said they would join students and unions in more mass protests set for April 4 despite Chirac’s speech on Friday, which aimed to defuse a confrontation over the law that has put pressure on Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin.

Under the law employers can fire workers under 26 without reason during a two-year trial period. Chirac said he would sign it and then introduce a new one to create a one-year trial period and make employers justify any firing.

Chirac missed the point of the student protests, former Socialist finance minister Dominique Strauss-Kahn said.

“They don’t want just a trial period shortened from two to one year. They want their work contract to be the same as other workers,” he said after the left-wing meeting…….

This is what the new French Employment Laws plan to do:
French labour law row

“…… The CPE is a new work contract for under-26s with a two-year trial period. In that period, employers can terminate the contract without having to offer an explanation.

…… The government argues the measure will boost opportunities for young workers, many of whom can only find short-term contract work at best.

Some employers say they are reluctant to take on new staff because of the difficulties of firing them if they prove unsuitable or are no longer needed.

However, critics warn the new legislation could make it even harder for young people to find a permanent job, and it could be misused by larger employers.

A CSA poll in Le Parisien newspaper on Thursday suggested that 68% of French people wanted the government to withdraw the measure.

Trades unionists and student leaders say they fear it will lead to exploitation. They are calling for measures to stimulate job creation instead…….

Protests:

“Protesters, who numbered more than one million last Tuesday, say the First Job Contract (CPE) creates “Kleenex jobs” that make it easier for firms to dispose of young workers…..

I say :

I shuld be on the side of french govt, a world that is ruled by the power of the market is not a world worth living in, unless of course, you are th one who control tht market

IIM fury

February 17, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I was very much perplexed by the IIM’s decision to foray in to foreign soil like Singapore, I don’t see any reason for that, IIM’s are the pride of nation , every one would agree that notion, even they are pretty famous world wide for their standards even this is true, so now why do IIMs wanna enter foreign nations, wanna be more recognized??

But , according my knowledge, they aren’t setup for any any pride , they were started to aid Indian student’s to achive global standards in Biz and Marketing, yes indeed they have been sucessfull at this point, but would their resposbility end up here with 7 IIM’s , why do they need to get out and start new campusess across the world??, with the same Money and Infrastucture they can create more IIM’s in India itself aiding more student’s , but pride is not the only reason why IIM’s wanna enter the global market the underlying reason is Money .

Oxford and Stanford the bigwig biz schools were setup at some 400 and 200 years ago respectively, they didn’t even thought of getting into foreign nations, even they have got an enormous appreciation, if they were to be scaled at scale of 100, I don’t see these IIM’s at even 1 or 2 points, so why these novice trading schools wanna get in to Singapore and so ?? I dont see any reason.

Realm of rationalism

February 17, 2006 · Leave a Comment

I don’t understand why Mr. Kamal Nath (Minister of Commerce and Trade ) is so excited about the Mittal Arcleor Bid, he did even a wrote an official letter to EU commissioner of Trade Mr Peter Mendison saying that an intention oppose of Mr Mittal’s bid to take over europian giant Arcelor would drag the deal in to the realm of rationalism, Yes I do agree with kamal nath , that arcelor is trying to evade it self form bid only because it doesn’t want to work under an Indian. but what did mr Mittal had been to India all these days , Ispat international steel company of Mittal is the very world no 1 in steel production , but still it didn’t had at least a single unit in INDIA it’s mother nation, if bid is gonna be success full Mittal is trying to move his head quarters to Luxemburg, but he didn’t reveal any plans to start a unit in his mother nation , now at this juncture Kamal nath shouldn’t have any consideration to support Mittal, except if his has been offered a personal incentive , which can’t be ruled out in this govt.
