Radio propagation through the ionosphere layers

The Sun energy sent to the earth also results in strong disturbances with the atmosphere.

This paper is a parallel result of many studies about the Sun energy and its interaction with

atmosphere with focus on ionosphere layer. The author believes that it is important to publish

because may be useful also to illustrate about the power Sun on atmosphere.

The first objective of this paper is to explain the technical characteristics of ionosphere

regarded with radio transmissions during a typical day. In many situations the ionosphere may be

used to improve the radio communications around the world. The radio operators and radio

amateurs know the importance and improvements that may be possible when the radio waves are

reflected by ionosphere.

The Ionosphere is divided in zones or layers, these layers exist because the differences of

ionization densities. The characteristics of these layers present strong changes during the year

seasons and present different radio reflections at night and day as well. The Sun spots represent

another source of modifications over the ionosphere ionization levels too. Each layer of the

ionosphere is responsible for specific radio frequency reflection. It’s important to say that the

power of transmission may be reduced if the radio operator knows the correct frequency and hour

to operation using different layers. This knowledge may to stablish the relationships between radio

propagation and frequencies used in communications around the globe. For instance,

communications under a specific frequency may to reach more distance if done at correct hours

and season.

Today many radio amateurs around the world are using radios to do data transmission

and Internet connections as well. The data transmission using radio amateurs is calling “package

radio” and may be the a very feasible solution to Internet connections for locations where

conventional connections are not available. Anyone can enjoy the reflections regarded the

ionosphere layers using an ordinary short waves radio receiver tuned in commercial frequencies.

Many radios stations around the world keep regular transmissions using short waves and these

transmissions are easily tuned around the globe because the ionosphere reflections.
